Synopsis
It's the Taisho era—a time filled with the scent of romance, and people's hearts are still filled with compassion. Unzen, Sukayu, Unohana, Oshamanbe, and Aso are all ordinary (?) male students at Binan High School, who spend their days lazing around in the clubroom of the "do-nothing club" Earth Defense Club, and live together in the Kurotama dormitory. One day, while the five are taking a morning bath at the Kurotama dormitory, they notice something slimy moving in the bathtub. When they finally manage to catch it, it turns out to be a talking Pallas's cat named Nuru! Nuru has come from the distant future with a serious mission to inform them that the Earth is facing an impending threat of destruction. While he says he wants to protect the Earth, he says he's only come to warn them of the crisis, and that it's up to the five of them to decide whether or not they want to fight for the Earth... Isn't this just an attempt to dodge responsibility? The Defense Club members are suspicious. "If either is fine with you, I'll do it! That's more fashionable!" Unzen enthusiastically says. The five decide to fight with free will, and Nuru transforms them into the Haikara Romantic Troupe using feline science. The most Haikara! anime in existence! At first, it's deep message and themes went over my head and I made the foolhardy mistake of believing this modern-day masterpiece was a simple magical boy parody brainrot show. But as I allowed the Haikara! to enter deeper into my mind palace, I began to see the true radiance of Haikara! Not only is this anime Haikara!, it is, in its brilliance, the most Haikara! in the history of entertainment, nay, of art. For through watching this Haikara! anime, you too will become Haikara! I believe it is my sacred duty, as one of the blessed Haikara! chosen tohave seen this Haikara! light of a thousand lights, to spread the Haikara! to others, so that they too may become Haikara! Join me, my Haikara! friend, and let us bask in our new Haikara! existence together! For to be Haikara! is Haikara!
This series is the latest in the Bouei-bu franchise, which I recommend, especially if you are a fujoshi, fudanshi or an enjoyer of the unclothed male physique. I don't think Haikara is as good as the other seasons, but I still recommend it. An all-male cast of cute guys who are often naked is always a pleasure to watch. It's funny and has loads of ships and fanservice like the other seasons but it did not feel like as much as there was in seasons 1 and 2, for example. The character design and animation are very different from the other seasons and IMHO (In MyHaikara Opinion) inconsistent and clumsy in places. But otherwise, the familiar plot structure and setting are just as fantastic and enjoyable as the others. I have a feeling there will be more seasons because it's still not been explained where the defense club sign came from...
